My friend is looking for a home for her dog. Please share with your friends and contact her if interested.
Riley needs a home! She has one week </3
Riley is my 3 year old pitmix. We think she may be mixed with lab just because her looks and her funny behaviors (tail wagging for sure). She is an incredibly happy dog. So happy that we nicknamed her Wiggles. She wags her tail so hard/often that it makes her whole back end move.
Riley was found off the freeway in South Carolina a few years ago. She was pregnant. she had her litter and was then fixed. Riley was a great momma dog. She cared for all her babies until they were found homes. Now she needs a forever home.
I am just a college student, almost a stray myself. I live wherever I can afford, and right now…. where I do is unwelcoming of her. I would love to keep her because she is such an amazing dog, but unfortunately I cannot afford to rent a home… A home would be required because most if not all apartment/condo groups have dog regulations. She isn’t huge, she’s actually fairly small (small enough to ball up and be tinier than a bed pillow). The reason she is turned down at rental places is that they discriminate against pit/pitmixes. This is so sad. Punish the deed not the breed. Yes, there is an overwhelming negative sentiment about pits, but none of it is their fault. In my opinion, there is no such thing as a bad dog, just bad owners. Irresponsible people who neglect or abuse their dogs (of any breed) are fostering unwanted behaviors in the animal. They act the way we teach them to. Riley is a prime example of how wrong pit assumptions are.
Riley is loving and will lick anyone and smack them with her wiggly tail. In fact, she’s the worst guard dog ever because she’ll probably take an intruder to your bedroom if they let her think she can cuddle with them on the bed.
Riley gets along well with other dogs. She loves playing with large breeds like boxers or german shepherds… but she was also raised with a small dog.
Riley loves kids. She loves chasing them and will bring any child a toy to tug with her or a ball to toss for her. She has been around my two year old nephew since birth. Most dogs will show a little jealousy towards a new baby…. but not Riley. She loved lay down and keep watch over him (probably the momma dog in her). She loves playing with my nephew still and is mindful of her size to not bulldoze him on accident.
Riley is house broken. She stays outside whenever I’m gone, but loves to sleep in my room at night. She snores sometimes, though. Riley is also baby-gate trained. I can block her into the kitchen if I’d like her to stay off the carpet or in a certain room.
So that’s Riley. She’s just a beautiful baby girl who I am hating to part with. I want to find her a good, loving home who can become her new family. I can’t take her to shelters because they automatically kill her kind since nobody will adopt them/ so many pits go homeless. And even if they did accept her, she’d live the life of all shelter dogs. They have about one week to be adopted or else be killed. I can’t have her spend her last week in a concrete bottom, cold, lonely prison cell.
There are no open pit rescues because over half of the homeless dogs in California are pits so they are completely overwhelmed. No rescues that offer foster homes will take her either because people wont open up their homes and hearts to realize that not all pit/mixes are like the ones the news demonizes and the hood glorifies.
So she has one week to find a forever home. I would say free to a good home, but I know animals that are paid for are statistically more likely to be committed to and better taken care of. I would use the fee to get her groomed, buy her a supply of food and flea medicine, and send her with a few toys and a bed.
If anyone is interested or knows someone who might be, please let me know. We can arrange a meeting for you, your family, and any pets you may already have.
